At 16, Rit played his first session with The Mama’s & The Papas. Two yearslater, he was performing with Tony Bennett and Lena Horne at L.A.’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Nearly 3,000 pop and jazz sessions later, with legendswho only need one name (Barbra, Quincy, Dizzy, B.B., Jaco), Lee hasreceived 17 Grammy nominations and one win for “Harlequin”, his 1986 collaboration with Dave Grusin.
In 2000, he and Grusin returned to theirclassical roots with “Two Worlds”, which remained on Billboard’s classicalcharts for 51 weeks. Lee’s catalog includes work with Dave and Don Grusin,four projects in the 90’s with contemporary jazz supergroup Fourplay and twoall-star “Twist Of” projects paying homage to the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Bob Marley. During that span, Lee has also penned 150 originalrecorded compositions, released 40 solo alben and produced numerous projectsfor other artists.
During his 26 year career, Lee Ritenour has become oneof the most widely heard and admired guitar players in the world. He wasone of the trail blazers in the rock-jazz fusion movement and continues toinnovate and dazzle on record and in live performance.
