Gordon Haskell - One Day Soon
You might call him the Sean Connery of music. Gordon Haskell had his first success with Fleur de Lys in 1966 followed by a short stint as bass player and singer for both Robert Fripp and King Crimson. In 1971 Ahmet Ertegun and Arif Mardin signed him for Atlantic. Haskell recorded quite a number of albums which remained insider tips, despite still selling worldwide. He toured with Hamish Stuart and Robbie McIntosh and was bass player for Sir Cliff Richard. In 2002 he reached No. 2 in the UK album charts with Harry`s Bar and his hit How Wonderful You Are reached No. 2 in the UK singles charts and became the most played song in British Radio that Christmas.
The new album One Day Soon still presents bar jazz with wonderful melodies, sung by Haskell`s unique deep voice. But the lyrics abandoned the love theme in favour of poetic as well as politic statements. Gordon Haskell who, these days lives on a small Greek island, today focuses solely on his song writing. One can really feel the influences of Chet Baker and the calmness of Haskell’s Greek island on One Day Soon.
